A person from India who wants to move to the Netherlands will need to apply for and get an MVV, which is a long-stay visa. This article explains the main steps that an Indian must take to get a permanent resident card in this country. Still, if someone wants to move from India to the Netherlands here, he or she will have to make a number of important decisions for him or herself and, if applicable, other family members.
Long-duration stay
Foreigners from India who want to move to this country must stay in the country for more than 90 days. This means they will apply for a long-stay visa that fits their reason for staying, which is why they want to move to this country. Most of the time, long-term stays in the Netherlands are used for the following:
Employment
For an Indian citizen who has a contract with a Dutch employer. This can include intra-company transfers to a Dutch head office, but the employer has to meet certain conditions.
Business
For entrepreneurs who can start a company that meets specific innovation requirements.
Study
People from India can also move here to study if they are accepted by one of the Dutch universities or another well-known school.
Family reunification
Available to a person’s spouse or another family member if that person already lives in the Dutch legally or is a Dutch citizen. Most of the time, the long-stay visa is requested before a trip to Dutch, and the request is sent to the Dutch Embassy in New Delhi or to another Consulate. For people who move to the Dutch to get paid work, their employer in Dutch will apply to the Immigration and Naturalization Service for a residence permit.
Some of the following fees must be paid:
- After finishing school, a residence permit to look for work costs €207.
- To work in a job costs €345; to work as a self-employed person costs €1,446;
- To start a business commands €349.
- €207 to stay with a family member; €207 to study at any level.
Please remember that these fees may change in the future.
Permanent residence is given to people who have lived in the Dutch for at least five years in a legal way.
Moving to the Netherlands
People from India who have lived in the Dutch for more than 90 days are considered to have moved there. Some things, like getting the MVV and finding a job, are taken care of before coming to the country. Others, like making sure the driver’s license is still valid, are taken care of after arrival.
If you are from India and want to move to Dutch, you will also need to think about your family (if you have one) and find out if your partner also needs a visa.
The goal of the moving process will be to get an Indian a Netherlands PR, which is a permanent residence card that lets the holder stay in the country and if they want to, start the naturalization process to become a citizen.
Before applying for citizenship, people from India who want to move to the Dutch will also need to think about the civic integration process. This is a process that starts as soon as the person arrives and goes on for a long time. Staying for a long time is one way for many Indians to eventually be able to apply for Dutch citizenship. Most Indians will be able to become Dutch citizens through the naturalization process once they have lived in the country for a minimum number of years.
