Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary posted to Latvia at the Canada embassy is His Excellency (H.E.) Mr. Kevin Rex
Ambassador Kevin Rex joined the Federal Government in 2000 through the Management Trainee Program. During his time in Ottawa he served as a Foreign Policy Advisor to the Prime Minister in the Privy Council Office (2004-2006), was the acting Director of the Canadian International Development Agency’s Afghanistan Task Force (2007-2008) and Deputy Director in the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade’s Stabilization and Reconstruction Task Force (START) (2009-2012), responsible for Civilian Deployments. In Ottawa, he also served as a Reserve Army Officer with the Cameron Highlanders of Ottawa. Positions overseas included Canada’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations in New York in 2003 and Kandahar, Afghanistan from 2006-2007 where he served as the Development Advisor to the Commander of Joint Task Force Afghanistan – for which he was awarded the General Service Medal. Ambassador Rex led the START team to Haiti after the 2010 earthquake, and to Nepal following the 2015 Earthquake. He was awarded the Humanitas Operational Service Medal for his work in disaster response. He most recently served in Belgrade, Serbia as Political Counsellor and Chargé d’affaires a.i. from 2012 to 2016. His last assignment in Ottawa was as Director of Eastern Europe and Eurasia, where he was responsible for managing Canada’s political, commercial and development relations with the 19 countries of the region. In 2018 he was awarded two Deputy Minister Awards in recognition of exceptional performance.
