A resident visa program was started by the Swedish government for highly skilled individuals looking to work or begin a business there. The length of the permission might range from three months minimum to nine months maximum. The bearer of a residence permit cannot bring dependent family members to Sweden. Candidates who meet the requirements must present evidence of the following:
- Have finished coursework leading to an advanced degree;
- Plan to seek work or explore the potential of launching a business in Sweden;
- Have the means to support oneself both during the application process and while in Sweden;
- Hold comprehensive health insurance that is valid in Sweden;
- Possess a passport that will be valid while traveling to Sweden;
- Live abroad at the time the application is made.

What counts as an advanced-level degree
A degree must correlate to a 60-credit Master’s degree, a 120-credit Master’s degree, a professional degree worth 60-330 credits, or a postgraduate/PhD-level degree to be considered advanced level.
You must provide a letter of authorization with your application for the Swedish Council for Higher Education (UHR) to make contact with institutions of higher learning in your home country to confirm the validity of your academic credentials. Your documents are then forwarded by the Swedish Migration Agency to UHR, who will evaluate your level of education. The Swedish Migration Agency is unable to respond to inquiries on the caliber of your degree before your application.
