Many people from different countries travel to Lithuania each year to live there. Some want to join their families, while others come to research, work, or expand their businesses. Afghanis who are migrating here due to the political unrest in their nation want to be granted permanent status there.

Types of Lithuanian immigration suitable for Afghanis
Family reunion, work, business, education, and other factors are the main reasons people immigrate to the country. These are further explained below.
Immigration of family
Parents, siblings, children, or spouses of a Lithuanian-Afghani resident may accompany them to Lithuania from Afghanistan to reside there. Families may qualify for either a Provisional Residency Visa or a lifelong Residence License. They may also apply for both.
It is necessary to show that a Lithuanian national stayed with a family member in Afghanistan for authorities to grant an Extended Residency Card. The main requirements for immigration have to do with proving the familial link, having enough money to live on, having a place to live, and not having any felonies.
Immigration for work
If a resident of Afghanistan wants to work in the nation and live there on an employment basis, they should look for work with a local company. He must possess the qualifications necessary for the position, proof of those qualifications, and at least one year of expertise in the industry.
The set of documents needed to grant someone the ability to live and work varies on several factors. Such factors include the kind of employment, education, the agreed-upon wage, and other factors. The set of documents includes:
- Proof of higher education;
- Proof of work experience;
- Personal documents; and
- Job contract.
The applicant can submit the necessary paperwork and the request form to apply for a work permit in the country. After obtaining a work permit, an individual can apply for a national visa D, which gives them the ability to operate and live in Lithuania for a year. The applicant may be given a residency card when the one-year time has passed.
Business immigration
The main criteria for corporate immigration relate to the amount of the company’s market value, the number of staff wages, the hours worked, and how the activities are carried out.
As per legal regulations, an Afghan citizen may request for issuance of a residency visa based on operating a company in Lithuania. It is only possible if the following conditions are met:
- The local business had been operating for at least the previous six months.
- The company’s equity is at least 28,000 euros, plus the candidate’s investment of 14,000 euros.
- At least one-third of the shares are owned by the candidate.
Immigration of students
A foreign student who wants to attend school must first select a school and a course of study. The Afghani student may request for issuance of a residency visa based on the study, provided that the Afghani national meets all admissions conditions established by the educational establishment.
The documentation needed to obtain a residency card in the country can be delivered to the Migration Agency or a consular office.
Residency based on humanitarian reasons
Lithuania is granting residence to Afghani refugees for compassionate reasons as a result of ongoing conflicts in the nation. If a person with humanitarian permission wants to work, they must submit a different request for an employment permit.
Humanitarian residency cards grant holders the right to family reunions for their wives, kids, and parents who are over 67. If the prerequisites are still satisfied, a residency visa for humanitarian reasons may be extended for a maximum of two years.
Only written requests may be sent, either by standard mail to the Department of Immigration. Requests may also be filed at the Regional Commissioner’s headquarters.
