The Federal Republic of Germany is in Central Europe. It is located between the Baltic Sea and the North Sea to the North. It covers an area of 357,022 square kilometers and has a population of over 83 million people. Its capital city is Berlin.

Requirements for immigration to Germany

In order to immigrate to Germany, a person should fulfill some requirements :

  1. Prove that he’s financially stable and that he may be able to take care of himself without being a burden to the country.
  2. Have proper health insurance.
  3. People from certain countries must obtain a German visa before entering Germany. Others can apply for a residence permit after entering Germany without having a visa.
  4. Have basic proficiency in German.

The various types of visas a foreigner can apply for are; business visas, student visas, employment visas, training visas, and guest scientist visas.

Immigration through employment

It’s one of the most popular ways to immigrate to Germany because there has been a shortage of skilled labor and people with certain technical expertise. To use this approach, one must find a job in Germany that will accept foreigners. Then, they must apply for an employment visa. Then they can move to Germany and get a working residence permit. This is only possible if there was a shortage of such employees in Germany and the European Union. One can even apply for permanent residence after a certain period of time.

Immigration through education

While other countries have expensive tuition fees, universities in Germany either have very low fees or are totally freel. First, one must obtain an education visa. After meeting certain requirements and obtaining a visa, one can attend university. Upon completion of the degree, the individual can stay in Germany to look for a job for a limited time. If they find a job, they are allowed to stay in Germany.

Immigration through investment

Entrepreneurs and investors who create economic opportunities in Germany are allowed to immigrate there. The least investment amount is 250,000 Euros. They will also have to get a Self-Employment visa, which falls under the Germany Working Visa. They also must prove that they have the necessary funds to invest and that the investment is in high demand and the country’s economy will benefit from it. After three years of obtaining the visa, one acquires unlimited extensions on their residence permit.

Immigration for family reunions

Sometimes people have had to move to Germany for different reasons and had to part with their families in their home countries. In this case, their spouses and children can apply for immigration to join them. There must be proof of marriage for the spouse and birth certificates for the children. Children over the age of 16 years, must have sufficient proficiency in the German language. Spouses require at least an A1 German proficiency level.

Residence permit

When one gets their visa, they also get a residence permit. It can either be temporary, which means the individual will stay for a period of time then go back to their country, or permanent, which means they can stay in Germany for as long as they want, can leave and come back whenever they want.

  1. Standard Residence Permit.

Used for all immigration purposes. It is valid only for a certain time after which it can be extended.

  1. European Union Blue Card.

Given to non-EU foreign workers who have high qualifications and wish to use those skills by working in Germany. It is valid for four years, with the possibility of changing their residence permit into a permanent one, so long as they meet certain requirements

  1. Settlement Permit or Permanent Residence Permit.

Given to those that have had a Standard Residence Permit or EU Blue Card for at least five years and meet certain financial and language requirements.
