When visiting Portugal, Afghan nationals must get a visa. Afghan nationals must get a Schengen visa for Portugal. The typical length of stay is only 90 days, and the visa expires after that time. The applicant must be present when requesting a Portugal Schengen visa.
EU/EFTA nationals
All EFTA and EU citizens are eligible for visa-free entry into Portugal, as are some family members and relatives, even if they are not EU citizens. Portugal is a member of the European Union. For three months, EU nationals are allowed access to launch a business or look for work. Once hired, EU citizens have the same rights as Portuguese workers.

Types of Portuguese visas
There are three categories of Portuguese visas:

Short-stay Portuguese visas
The Schengen Visa, often known as the Short Stay Visa, is valid for stays of up to 90 days in any 180 days. It may be issued for brief or irregular stays in Portugal for business, vacation, family visits, temporary employment, airport transit, or other reasons. For as long as your Schengen Visa is valid, you are free to travel throughout the Schengen Area nations.
You must apply for a Schengen visa at the Portuguese embassy or consulate in your country no later than 15 days and no more than six months before your trip.
The standard cost of a short-stay Schengen visa is €80. Children between the ages of 6 and 12 pay a discounted rate of €40. In some nations, you can be required to pay an extra service fee, which, in most situations, shouldn’t be more than half the usual visa amount. In other words, the service charge cannot exceed €40 (or €20 for kids 6 to 12).
General Short Stay visa
This 90-day visa can be used for a variety of things, including travel, visiting relatives, and transient employment or business. The following must be included with your application form:

- Return ticket reservation

Airport Transit visa
This is allowed to enable movement between flights in an airport’s international region without going through the Schengen Zone. All travelers who change flights in a Schengen airport must have this visa unless they are excluded from needing a visa to enter Portugal.
