An interesting business move that can result in new connections, offerings of goods and services, and more is expanding into Ukraine. But none of that is possible without a gifted group of workers supporting you who are authorized to work in Ukraine. It may take you longer to begin working in Ukraine if you’re not clear on how to obtain work visas for each of your employees.

Conditions for obtaining work visas for Ukraine

For work visas and permits in Ukraine, there are certain requirements for both employers and employees. As of 2021, employers must pay foreign workers a minimum of 60,000 UAH per month, unless they fall under a “special category”. Typically, these people are Ukrainian firm founders or beneficiaries. Each and every work permit is given out based on the employee’s role and employer.

Who is eligible for a work permit in Ukraine

You must have been hired to toil for a company in Ukraine in order to receive a work permit. As an independent contractor, you cannot complete the paperwork by yourself  This is due to the fact that the necessary documentation can only be provided by an employer.

Regardless of nationality, any citizen. The age of 16 is considered to be the legal beginning of employment in Ukraine. Those who have committed crimes in the past may not be granted a work visa.

In accordance with agreements made between domestic and foreign business entities, permission is also given for the employment of foreign nationals who are sent to Ukraine by a foreign employer to complete a specific amount of jobs (services). The proportion of qualified foreigners employed under the agreement does not exceed half of the total number of people working for the contract conditions, and foreign nationals are classified as “intra-corporate transferees”.

Employers are required to submit work permit applications on behalf of their employees. Required paperwork includes:

  • Application form which is duly stamped by officials.
  • Copy of passport containing personal information.
  • A color photo of the employee the size of a passport,
  • A copy of the employment contract with your certification.
  • Documents attesting to your authority to speak on behalf of the employee.
  • Copies of applicants’ transcripts from the top 100 colleges with their higher education documentation.
  • For creative professions, certified copies of documents, copyright, and related rights.
  • A copy of the contract for the activity you will undertake.

These documents must be translated into Ukrainian and authorized if they are issued abroad.

Application method

You can apply for your Ukraine work permit at your company’s site with local officials of the State Employment Service of Ukraine once you’ve finished the application and gathered the necessary paperwork. There is no online filing system, so a representative from your company must visit the actual office. Depending on the length of the contract, you may additionally be required to pay the government’s charge. Typically, work permits are granted for the length of the employment agreement, but they cannot exceed three years for some groups of workers or one year for everyone else. Six living salaries, as determined by Ukrainian law on January 1st, are required for work permits lasting one to three years. Work permits are renewable indefinitely.

Additional crucial points

Within seven working days of receiving the submission, the State Employment Service of Ukraine will decide whether to accept or reject the application. If accepted, you will be given bank account information to pay the work permit charge. Employees must sign their employment contracts and receive a certified copy of their work permits within 90 days of receiving them.
